HOW TO SAFELY HOLD YOUR OWN GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF
It’s that time of year when everyone is hooked on The Great British Bake Off.
For many, it becomes tempting to gather their friends together and channel their inner Paul's and Prue's for a baking bonanza. Or for some people, they might like to buy some treats based around the bake-off theme of the week and relax in front of the telly with a glass of their fvaourite wine.
You may be wondering what workwear has to do with a bake-off. If you’re going to go down bake-off route, you'll need to remember that it’s not just ingredients you'll need. You’ll also need clothing to make sure everyone stays safe while they’re whipping up their favourite cakes.
Here are three items of clothing that will help you and your friends feel professional in the kitchen:
| 1. GLOVES A wide range of gloves can be used for your bake off. Disposable gloves can be used when working with raw eggs and raw meats. They prevent bacteria from spreading to your hands and help avoid cross-contamination. There are also firm knitwear gloves that would be ideal to use when removing items from the oven, as well as chemical resistant gloves for when you get around to washing up afterwards. Total Workwear can also supply cut resistant gloves, which are brilliant for those who are working with knives (and those who are not very good at using knives!). | 2. SNOOD CAPS OK, so you don’t actually see anyone wearing snood caps on Bake Off, but they are a great choice of PPE when working with food. If you’re planning to whip up a tasty treat and want your nearest and dearest to enjoy it, then a snood cap will reduce the chance of an idle hair becoming part of the mixture. The majority of people in the food industry use snood caps if they have long hair because they realise how easy it is for their hair to become a burden. If you are wanting something a little more stylish while you're preparing for the gingham altar, why not try a trilby hat instead! Click here to view our range of food industry headwear. |
| 3. CHEF'S JACKET A chef's jacket will really have you looking and feeling the part in the kitchen. In the hospitality industry, these jackets are favoured because they protect the clothing underneath, and cam also be cleaned easily - many of them can be cleaned at very high temperatures in order to remove stains and grease. It is advisable that you consider wearing one of these jackets, because it will protect your outfit should anything splash and spill on to you. You may also want to protect your clothing in a similar way to the bake-off contestants, and wear an apron. You can see the aprons that Total Workwear supply by clicking here.
